Achieve this requires an effective diversity and inclusion program managed by HR – which often takes the form of HR departments overseeing programs like these.

The University of Washington
The University of Washington is dedicated to supporting and advancing diversity, equity, inclusion and access (DEI) through education, research and outreach efforts. DEI work is increasingly vital in our world of increased division and mistrust; building an inclusive and equitable community requires understanding each other better while acknowledging and responding to systemic oppression experienced by people of color, LGBTQIA+ individuals and women – these efforts require partnership among students, staff and communities for successful implementation of DEI goals. At UW we take great pride in working alongside students, staff and communities towards our DEI goals!
At DEI, we provide workshops, seminars and other learning opportunities to both faculty and professional staff to foster more inclusive organizations. These programs provide tools and techniques that can be implemented into creating more diverse, equitable and inclusive organizations; these tools are tailored specifically to people managers, functional managers, divisional leaders and executives looking to incorporate DEI into their core values and business strategy.
These events and initiatives aim to provide resources, examples, and support for UW’s professional staff as they seek to uphold diversity, equity, and inclusion as core values of the University. We thank all participants for sharing their stories and experiences while contributing to UW’s mission.
The University of Washington (UW) has long been committed to creating an inclusive environment that celebrates and embraces its diverse student body, scholar body and employee population. This work stems from our mission: providing global perspectives; expanding minds and empowering communities while improving lives through discovery and innovation.
Establishing and upholding an equitable and inclusive environment takes effort, energy and dedication. To make our efforts successful, it is vital that we engage all members of our community in sharing their thoughts and ideas about goals, policies and processes; that is why we established the Student and Faculty Diversity Equity and Inclusion Advisory Council.
This week, the University of Washington joins universities and colleges nationwide in commemorating National First-Generation College Student Day. We recognize all first-generation college students who have successfully made it onto campuses nationwide but may have experienced difficulty navigating higher education systems – these students are why we dedicate resources such as scholarships, mentoring programs and more for them.
