Employee Confidence Moving Downward
Despite confidence and increased hiring in some industries, the overall employee confidence level in the U.S. is down according to the Spherion employee confidence index. The index dropped to 57.4, down 0.8 points from March. Despite that, the index is still 1.8 points higher than April 2005.
The survey further showed that 43% of workers polled feel that the economy is getting weaker and that 41% believe that fewer jobs are available. Additionally, the survey showed that 65% of employees are confident in the future of their employers, 57% are confident in their ability to find a new job and 38% are likely to look for a new job. While the former two numbers are little changed from March, the percentage claiming that they will seek new employment increased 5% over the month.
