Tech creates a bubble for kids – Yahoo! News
As a Generation X’er not necessarily fitting the mold of my generation, I remember what was said about us, with “us” being that group born during the late 1960s and 1970s. “Slackers”, lazy, rude, etc. were all noted, but I think that generally we all grew up. Or those who didn’t are among the un- and underemployed. So, from the employment perspective (boring for the younger generation, but they’ll understand the importance everntually), will they grow up?
I’ve often wondered how the current “young” generation will evolve. I’ve witnessed a teenager, thumbs blazing, have a “conversation” with a “friend” across the country in a room full of living, breathing human beings who are interacting with everyone else in the room – except the isolated teenager, of course.
Will this obsession with remote communication and the shield of the technology bubble be somehow twisted to some greater purpose by members of this generation? Will they, like Generation X before them, spawn an entire group able to capitalize on the “silly” gadgets, technology and innovations they are so obsessed with? Anything said on the matter is merely conjecture at this point, but I’m assuming at least some modicum of “social correctness” will develop among most of these young people and it will meld very well with their intense understanding and love for technology.
Side note – I feel like Dr. Evil with all of my quotes. Just imagine Mike Myers making hand quotes every time you read one and the post will be much more entertaining.
