March Healthcare Job Growth Solid
While job growth in other industries was slow or nonexistent, the healthcare industry added 24,300 jobs in March, 2006. That represents a 0.2% increase over February and a 2.4% increase since March, 2005. Overall, the end of March saw healthcare employment at 12.5 million.
Within various sub-sectors of the industry, hospitals added 8,400 employees in March to bring the total to 4.4 million, representing 1.9% annual growth. Similarly, ambulatory healthcare services added 15,900 jobs during March, and showed a 3.4% increase over the year. Within the ambulatory care sector, 5,600 physicians were hired, home healthcare added 3,900 jobs and outpatient care centers added 1,600 jobs.
