Worker Confidence Up, As Are Hiring Expectations

According to a survey from the Hudson Highland Group, 34% of U.S. managers expect to hire more personnel to their staffs in the next two months. The Group, which publishes its own employment index each month, saw the figure rise to 107.7 in April, which was up 1.5 points from March, 2006 and up 5.3 points over the April, 2005 figure.

Overall, U.S. employees are in agreement with managers, with 34% expecting hiring boosts in the coming months. The good news and high expectations were tempered a bit, however, with an increase in the percentage of employees who were concerned about job security. Rising energy prices and interest rates are likely at the heart of such concerns.
