First Quarter of 2006 Sees Strong Employment in IT Sector
For the 12 month period ending March 31, 2006, IT employment reached a record high of 3.472 million, more than the 3.455 million IT workers employed at the height of the dot-com boom. At the end of the first quarter of 2006, IT employment had reached 3.56 million and the unemployment rate for the sector was 2.5%, the lowest since early 2001, when the rate stood at 2.3%. That compares very favorably with the last quarter of 2005, when the IT unemployment rate stood at 3.7%.
